Thomas Gumper

CEA Michigan Teacher of the Year
Adult Education Teacher
Michigan Department of Corrections

I am a father of three, and have been married for 22 years. I graduated from Hanover-Horton High School. I then attended Adrian College and received my B.A. While at Adrian College I was a member of 1989 MIAA Championship football team. After college I was hired into the Michigan Department of Corrections as a Recreation Director where I spent 4 years, before putting on the uniform and working as a Corrections Officer for 2 years. The last 16 years have been spent in the classroom of the MDOC. In 2014 I was named the MDOC teacher of the year, and the Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education Outstanding Educator. I am currently a member of both the Academic Advisory Committee, and the Effective Process Improvement Committee for the MDOC. At the facility I am on the training committee, and the Hostage Incident Management team. In my spare time, I have spent 15 years as a varsity football coach at Hanover-Horton Schools. Whenever I have the opportunity I enjoy tarpon and shark fishing from my kayak.
